A world-class park in the heart of the Bayview

San Francisco’s newest waterfront park will deliver miles of winding shoreline trails, acres of restored tidal landscape and an abundance of recreation opportunities to the Bayview’s front porch. In an historic moment for environmental justice, the India Basin Project will transform a dilapidated relic of the industrial shipwrights’ era into a 21st-century park with an emphasis on public access, social equity, resiliency, and restoration.

EcoCenter Celebrates Earth Day and 14th Anniversary

We celebrated Earth Day and the 14th anniversary of the EcoCenter in Heron's Head Park this past weekend with The Port of San Francisco! There were a number of outdoor activities from rock climbing to kayaking, as well as community resources, volunteer projects, performances and more. Additionally, the San Francisco Parks Alliance brought some live jazz music as a part of its Heart Your Parks screen print pop-up for Heron's Head Park.

Thank you to Supervisor Rafael Mandelman and to all of our community partners who helped us celebrate, as well as to all who have made the EcoCenter a natural oasis for the neighborhood and hub for outdoor learning for 14 years! Learn more about this facility at this link.

ABC7: Transforming Toxic Areas into Thriving Community Spaces

In honor of Earth Day, check out ABC7's coverage of the India Basin Waterfront Park project. It not only highlights the restoration work we've done at this future park site, but the project's workforce development program, which trained and placed local Bayview-Hunters Point residents in construction jobs, including working on the park. Watch the full piece at the this link.

The Workforce Development program is an initiative of the project's Equitable Development Plan, following the strategy to provide Bayview-Hunters Point residents training and professional development opportunities through construction and operation of the park.

Check out the April India Basin Waterfront Park newsletter for events, programs and updates on the project, including on how to apply for APRI’s Resilient Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) internship, Community Innovation Lab Hours for April and May, APRI’s Job Fair on May 15, and more!
